|Pandorus Sphinx Moth on our deck|
We were wondering what could possibly be big enough to sound almost like a bat flying around but didn't have the coordination of a bat. This thing would bump into the walls and our kitchen door and we had no idea what it was. My cat would see it bumping into the wall and beg to go out!
Yesterday we were sitting on the deck during the day and I happened to look up at one of the pieces of wood. There this beautiful moth was and it was quite big! I still didn't know that it was a Pandorus Sphinx Moth yet, but it was a site to see. After seeing this in the daylight, we knew this had to be what was flying around at night bumping into the door and the walls like it was trying to get into the house. It was the only thing big enough!
Having no idea yet what it was I took it's picture and posted it online to see if I could get help finding out what it was. I had help from my friends at the cool forum The Alternative Energy Community where we discuss anything recycling and green living, and I had help from my Facebook friends and family. My Stepmom was the one who discovered that it was a Pandorus Sphinx Moth and I am not sure where exactly it came from because the plants these things eat are not around here. At least not that I know of and this is the first time I had seen it. The good news is that my tomato plants are safe from this little critter :)
Have you ever seen a moth so beautiful?
