If you want to change the quality of your life, you need to be at adventurous in your own way. I know you may be thinking-I am not going to go climbing a 14,000 foot high mountain. For some, that kind of adventure may not be a great thing for their quality of life. It may be stressful. What do you think of when you here the word adventurous?
I used to always think of myself as an anything goes, wing it kind of person. Looking back, I can say yes I was that kind of person. I was not as adventurous though. Yes I would make short notice plans, be up for many things on short notice and be quite flexible. Now looking back tho, I was still kind of in a comfort zone at all times. I was not often thinking outside the box. Often I found myself doing the same activities and just taking life a day at a time without many new events in life. That's right, I said without many new events or things.
Sure taking a long car ride down to Atlantic City and gambling away money (or winning as I often did) was an adventure-trust me, if you drove the Garden State Parkway in NJ you would say it can be an adventure! One problem was that I did it often. It was not new, it was not really being adventurous after doing it all the time.
I am not telling you that you need to go bungee jumping (you would never see me doing that), and I am not telling you to go gambling for adventure. You need to think of something that you would like to do but you have always had reasons not to. This could even be cooking or anything that you always make excuses not to do. Think outside the box and you will feel better when you accomplish something that you always wanted to do but always had a fear or even just excuses not to do it. For me, it was certain homemade things. I always thought that homemade bread would be hard and that it would be a disaster if I messed it up. I had not made homemade bread until finally I decided, what is the worst that could happen? I tried it for the first time a few months back, it turned out great by the way. Now this opened up the doors for me with other homemade items. I started homemade apple pie, homemade pudding and the list goes on. I felt so great when I first made that loaf of bread that everybody in the family loved (and no they were not just being nice-it was good), I realized that I could do so much more once I got over that fear or excuse that homemade bread is too hard to make without messing up.
Seriously, you should think about what adventurous means to you. It can be anything that you would like it to be. Try something new today, step out of the comfort zone a little. You will be glad you did and the feeling of accomplishment will lead to other great things. This in turn will lead to a change in your quality of life. You will be content, happy and more willing to do the new things. You will be less likely to say "I am not sure that I could do that."
Please note: When I am talking about changing the quality of life and being adventurous, I am not at all in any way telling you to do something that is illegal. If your reason for not doing something is fear of getting in trouble-don't do it!
